BELOIT TO HOST “MEDICARE BASICS WORKSHOP” AUGUST 17th
The Beloit Senior Center will be the site of a “Medicare Basics” workshop on Friday, August 17th, beginning at 6:00 PM. The event is sponsored by the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, as well as the Mitchell County Council on Aging and the Beloit Senior Center. The program will highlight the steps people recently (or soon to be) turning 65 will need to follow in signing up for Medicare. It will also benefit anyone who has any questions concerning Medicare, Medicare Supplement programs, or the Medicare Part D Drug plans which will be available in the upcoming annual enrollment sign-up period scheduled for October 15 through December 7. The program is open to anyone regardless of age, but will especially be beneficial to those about to enter the Medicare program for the first time, as well as Senior Citizens currently on Medicare, or any caregiver for an individual faced with Medicare issues. There is no cost for the workshop, and advanced enrollment is not necessary. The 6:00 PM starting time will allow those currently working to still attend the meeting, which typically ends between 7:30 and 8:00 PM.
The workshop will be conducted by staff members from NC-FHAAA who specialize in Medicare issues for the Manhattan-based Area Agency on Aging, with added support from John Highland, Beloit’s SHICK volunteer. SHICK stands for Senior Health Insurance Councilor for Kansans. These volunteers help local residents with their Medicare issues throughout the year, whether it is involved in enrolling issues, periodic Medicare questions, or the Medicare Part D enrollment. In addition to the presentation on Medicare by the FHAAA staff, there will be considerable time allotted for questions for any of the highly qualified personnel in attendance. The Flint Hills staff members involved in Medicare issues undergo intense training for that position as they strive to help Kansas Seniors arrive at Medicare decisions that are best for that individual. They work hard to help guide Kansas Seniors in their Medicare options, and are very thorough in presenting an appropriate explanation that is easily understood.
Participation is open to anyone in Mitchell County or any of the surrounding counties. For further information, please call the Beloit Senior Center at 785-738-5802, Jay Rowh, Mitchell County Silver Haired Legislator, at 785-738-0241, or NC-FHAAA at 800-432-2703. You are all invited to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge of the Federal Medicare program, and make it work for YOU.
