Leadership Mitchell County
The Leadership Mitchell County (LMC) program, a unique leadership development initiative that draws upon the resources of the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) in Wichita, is now taking applications for Class 19. Deadline for applications is June 1, 2018.

The Program
Over the course of nine months, participants will travel to various businesses and locations within Mitchell, Osborne, Lincoln, and Ellsworth counties as well as a trip to Kansas State University and the Kansas State Capitol to learn from business leaders, LMC alumni and leading academics. They will study and put into practice KLC competencies, develop a network of peers, and exchange ideas with mentors and others who can help them make an impact in their communities. Sessions are facilitated by LMC Board Members, alumni and area supporters. The LMC Board includes: President, Mallory Wittstruck of Central Valley Ag.; Vice President, Danielle Jeardoe of Waconda Trader; Secretary, Ingrid McMillan of Post Rock Crossfit; Treasurer, Mark Palen of AGCO; Curt Frasier of Fraiser, Johnson and Martin LLC; Kelly Schmitt of Wall to Wall Carpet & Interior; Eric Hilt of AgMark LLC; Scott Hartman of Van Keppel; Susan Flinn of Guaranty State Bank and Terry Cunningham of Cunningham Telephone & Cable.

The Curriculum
Each LMC session will focus on a specific core component of leadership including: Manage Self, Diagnose Situation, Intervene Skillfully, and Energize Others. In addition to interactive LMC alumni-led sessions, participants will hone their personal leadership development through work with business leaders and mentors. Small group activity is another core part of the programming with each class selecting, developing and executing a project for the benefit of the Mitchell County community through the application of the skills they learn through the program.

“LMC has given me the tools, knowledge, and confidence to further develop my leadership skills and aspirations. It has given me the opportunity to meet some great people in this community, and develop long lasting friends,” said Jennifer Giersch, LMC Class 15.

If you or someone you know is interested in participating as a class member for Class 19, you can find the application online at http://www.leadershipmitchellcounty.org. The class size is limited to 20 participants with the opportunity of two applicants from Osborne County and two applicants from Jewell County.

“Greatest Archery Shoot”
North central Kansas to host “the greatest archery shoot in the world”.
The Rinehart R100 3D archery shoot will be May 19 and 20, 2018. The event will be hosted by North Central Kansas Shooting Sports archery club the “Waconda Lake Archers”. Over 100 life size animal targets will be set up on trails along the wooded creeks and rolling hills at Ringneck Ranch in southwest Mitchell county. This year’s course will offer an African safari range and a North American range. During past shoots in Kansas this event has attracted over 300 participants. People travel hundreds of miles to participate in this archery competition and the “just for fun” categories. Many people will shoot the 100 targets over the two-day period. If attendees plan to shoot all 100 in one day, they’ll need to arrive early, so they don’t miss any of the special events going on in the afternoons. Crossbows are allowed! The event is family friendly and non-shooters are welcome to walk along the course. If visitors intend to bring a pet be sure to bring a leash as there will be lots of people on the trails. The shoot has marked yardages but participants are welcome to bring rangefinders and binoculars. The R100 starts at 7:30am. Find more details on the event schedule and register online at http://www.R100.org. If attendees are interested in lodging, primitive camping, and RV camping on site call the Ringneck Ranch office at 785-373-4835. Overnight accommodations, RV parking, and restaurants can also be found at nearby locations in Beloit, Glen Elder, Cawker City, Downs, Osborne, Lucas and Lincoln. The Waconda Lake Archery club will be giving away a Kansas state park annual vehicle permit to two lucky people. To be entered into the drawing you must be two of the first 100 people to register for the event online. Winners will be announced once registration reaches 100.

For more than 15 years the R100 Archery Shoot, hosted by Rinehart Targets, has provided thousands of passionate archers with an event that caters to participants of all ages and skill levels. R100 is comprised of 20 tournaments across 20 different states that host a family oriented event with over 9,000 attendees per year. The R100 can be found at some of the nations finest archery clubs and continues to introduce youthful shooters to the great sport of archery season after season.
