KVSV GM John Swanson Honored
Each year the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association names a winner of the media award given to a journalist or broadcaster that provides outstanding high school basketball coverage in the state of Kansas.
This year’s winner is KVSV Beloit’s GM John Swanson. John has been at KVSV since 1988….He has been the play by play voice of the Beloit High Trojans and St Johns Blujays since 1996. Swanson has won numerous sports play by play awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters including 3 First Place awards in the state in the small market radio category in 2003, 2013 and 2016.
Some of the previous winners of the KBCA Media award include….Catch It Kansas-Wichita…WIBW Radio Sports Crew Topeka…Bruce Steinbrock formerly of WIBW Radio in Topeka…Chris Allison KGSO Radio in Wichita…Matt Walters KMAN Radio in Manhattan…and Rick Peterson and Brent Maycock of the Topeka Capitol Journal.
An awards ceremony will take place Saturday afternoon June 24th at 1:30pm at Pioneer Hall on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. The Girls and Boys KBCA All Star Games will be played that evening. Davis Dubbert of St Johns Tipton will play in the boys game.
“It’s a great honor to receive this award. It means alot!” …said Swanson. “Just like in basketball it takes a great team effort to win…..in radio …it takes a great team to provide quality sports broadcasts and that is what we have at KVSV.” Swanson also added…”We’ve never received any awards for this (laughing)….but B.J. and I figured up that I’ve probably told over 3100 jokes on the KVSV Morning show in the last dozen years or so too.
John Swanson still serves as GM, Morning Show co-host and High School Sports Play By Play Announcer at KVSV AM1190 The Mix and The Gold Standard in Music KVSV FM 105.5 in Beloit.
