Tree City USA Recognition Day
The Beloit Tree Board and the City of Beloit will be hosting “Celebrating 41 years of TCUSA and Kansas Community Forestry” on Thursday, March 23rd at the First Christian Church. The City of Beloit has been recognized as a Tree City for 40 years.
One of the featured keynote speakers will be Beloit’s native son, Fred Deneke, along with his brother Stan. Fred is considered one of the early founders of Community Forestry and the TCUSA program.
Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees.
More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. The have achieved Tree City USA status by meeting four core standard of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
For more information on Tree City USA Recognition Day, contact Lynn Miller, Parks & Rec, at 738-2270.

COMPUTER/SMART PHONE WORKSHOP IN BELOIT
Not sure how to get started with a computer on the internet or email? Do you have an iPAD but don’t use it for much beyond Solitaire? Do you wish you could use more features on your Smart Phone other than to just answer the phone? All these questions, and more, can be answered on Wednesday and Friday, March 22nd and 24th, at the Beloit Senior Center, from 9:00 until 10:30. The workshop is open to everyone, regardless of age, and is FREE!!!
The Mitchell County Council on Aging, as well as the Beloit Senior Center is sponsoring the event, and will feature Miss Tayler Watts, Miss Lexie Roberg, Miss Grace Marozas, and Miss Danielle Riemann of Beloit High School as the presenters. Tayler, Lexie, Grace, and Danielle will take your questions each day, and will work with you on either your own electronic equipment, or on the computers available at the Senior Center. No advance enrollment is required. The participants will determine the content, as their questions will lead the discussion. Whether novice or more advanced, Tayler, Lexie, Grace, and Danielle will help you become better suited to getting the most out of your device.
Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops, iPads, and Smart Phones to the Senior Center on either, or both, days of the workshop. Potential topics include Skype, storing data on the iCLOUD, getting and using new APPS, taking pictures with your devices, sending and receiving pictures from and to your phone, Facebook, and any other questions the participants desire to have answered.
For further information, call the Beloit Senior Center at 738-5802. or Jay Rowh at 738-2310, Take advantage of this opportunity to get expert, hands-on information that will help you get more out of your electronic equipment on Wednesday and Friday, March 22nd and 24th, at the Beloit Senior Center.
There will be a similar workshop at the Glen Elder Senior Center the week of March 27th. More information on that workshop will follow.
