Waconda Lake Fireworks

The Waconda Lake Fireworks Association has completed arrangements for a spectacular fireworks display at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.) on Saturday, July 2, 2016.  This fireworks display will be enjoyed by many area residents, but it cannot be continued without donations as the association is an all-volunteer, non-profit association.  The fundraising goal for this year’s fireworks display is $9,000.  This includes fees for the professional pyrotechnics of Rainbow Fireworks, insurance, permit fees, and advertising.

With a week left of fundraising, the association has collected almost $4,000 well under the needed goal.  Jim Johnson, chairman of the Waconda Lake Fireworks Association, feels that the yearly display greatly benefits not only our area community members but area businesses as well. “It is really difficult to get an accurate count of exactly how many people come to the Waconda Lake for the fireworks display, but past estimates have been as high as over 10,000 people.  The draw is huge and many people come from several miles away to enjoy the annual show.”  Heather Johnson is a little worried about this year’s donation level, “Usually by this time we have collected about 75% of our goal.  This community is always generous in regards to special events like the Waconda Lake Fireworks Display so in the end I know things will be fine, but we are a bit concerned.”

Donations are being collected on, at S&S Drug, Gray Drug and Fountain, and Corner Drug in Downs.  If you are interested in making a donation they can be dropped off at either of these locations or mailed to Waconda Lake Fireworks Association 605 N. Logan Beloit, KS 67420.
