Welcome New Chamber Member!

The Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome The Pet Connection, Inc., as the newest member of the Chamber.

Melody Kelso, Executive Director, trainer, animal caretaker & behavioral team member and original founders, has been training dogs for over 20 years.  After completing a three month internship with Anne Mackey in 1993, she completed a one year internship with Westwood Animal Hospital and was hired as one of the primary dog trainers for their clinic.  She has trained in various animal hospitals and provided educational seminars for organizations including Animal Haven, Companion Animals, Johnson County Community College, Johnson County Mental Health, Longview Community College and Ranchmart.

In 1996, she operated a day care, pet sitting and dog training service for a little over a year before she closed the doors to become the executive director of Animal Haven.  Through her work with Heart of America Humane Society, Abandoned Animal Rescue, Border Collie Rescue and Animal Haven she has fostered hundreds of dogs.  Many dogs rescued by Melody are considered special needs and require work with aggression, separation anxiety, fears, basic training, deafness, blindness and other medical or behavioral issues.

Jason Huff, trainer, animal caretaker & behavioral team member, is one of the original founders of The Pet Connection.  Jason earned a degree in sociology from the University of Kansas in 1999 and started fostering for The Pet Connection in 2000. He started studying animal behavior in 2002. Jason became a full-time employee for The Pet Connection Rescue Development in 2003. He became a board member in 2005 and started teaching behavior consultant classes for The Pet Connection in 2006. In 2006, he became Director of Operations in charge of starting new programs and overseeing the dog adoption program.

Job Fair

Dear North Central Kansas Employers:

As many of you know, employees at Arvos (Concordia) were notified of potential permanent layoffs starting in July. Kansas Workforce One will be on the ground in mid-June to help employees navigate through unemployment, resume building, job searches, healthcare, etc. The Cloud County Employee Task Force in partnership with Kansas Workforce One will be hosting a job fair on Tuesday, June 21st from 1:00pm-7:00pm at the Cloud County Fairgrounds Commercial Building.

This job fair will be for Arvos employees and their spouses only. This will be your opportunity to meet with this highly skilled workforce.

Employees that are laid off will be eligible for workforce training dollars. This means they qualify for training dollars for school (up to $3000 a semester) or their new employers are eligible for a $3000 stipend for on the job training. Displaced homemakers are also eligible for retraining or on the job training dollars.

If you would like a booth at the job fair, please email me at ashley.hutchinson@cloudcorp.net. Tables and chairs will be provided. Deadline for booth space is Friday, June 17th. If you cannot make it but have a job you would like to list with us, please also email ashley.hutchinson@cloudcorp.net. We will be communicating with employees throughout the next few months with job opportunities as they arise.

Please consider having a booth, even if you only have one job to offer. Your show of support lets our guys and gals know that we want to keep them here in the community. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Rolling Hills

A “Meet & Greet” is scheduled for June 20th from 3:00-4:00 at the new location.  Rolling Hills Electric will host a Co-op Candidate Tour from 3-4 p.m. The Co-op Candidate Tour is
