2016 Business Appreciation Month Winners Announced
26 Regional Winners & 63 Merit Award Winners
Solomon Valley Economic Development nominated two businesses from Mitchell County, the Port Library and Cunningham Telephone & Cable. The Port Library was a Regional Business Excellence Award Winner and Cunningham Telephone & Cable is a finalist for the Governor’s Award of Excellence. Congratulations to the Port Library and good luck to Cunningham Telephone & Cable for becoming a finalist. Mitchell County is proud to have you here!
The Kansas Department of Commerce announces 26 Regional Business Excellence Award winners and 63 Merit Award winners as part of the 2016 Business Appreciation Month. The Commerce Department uses the month of June for its annual celebration of Kansas businesses and the contributions made to their communities and the state economy.
“Business Appreciation Month gives the Commerce Department the opportunity to show its support, recognition and gratitude for the businesses who work hard to excel in the state of Kansas,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave. “The 89 businesses that have been selected as winners of the 2016 Business Appreciation Month represent the dedication of Kansas workers, the resounding infrastructure that these businesses are built on and the level of support created by the state of Kansas, for every type of business.”
The businesses were nominated in one of four categories:
Five of the Regional Business Excellence Award winners have been named finalists for the Governor’s Award of Excellence, the top award given to a business by the state. The Governor’s Award of Excellence winner will be announced on June 22, 2016 at the Team Kansas Awards Banquet in Topeka. The five finalists are:
- Cunningham Telephone & Cable
- KanOkla Networks
- Roto-Mix, LLC
The full list of the 89 winners is available on the Department of Commerce website at KansasCommerce.biz.
BELOIT TO HOST “NEW TO MEDICARE WORKSHOP” JUNE 8TH
The Beloit Senior Center will be the site of a “New to Medicare” workshop on Wednesday, June 8th, beginning at 6:00 PM. The event is sponsored by the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging as well as the Mitchell County Council on Aging and the Beloit Senior Center. The program will highlight the steps people recently (or soon to be) turning 65 will need to follow in signing up for Medicare, as well as for anyone else who has any questions concerning Medicare itself, Medicare Supplement programs, or the Medicare Part D Drug plans which will be available in the upcoming annual enrollment sign up period scheduled for October 15 through December 7. The program is open to anyone regardless of age, but will especially be beneficial to those about to enter the Medicare program, Senior Citizens currently on Medicare, or any caregiver for an individual faced with Medicare issues. There is no cost for the workshop, and advanced enrollment is not necessary. The 6:00 PM starting time marks the first time this workshop has been offered in the evening, thus allowing working citizens of the area to participate.
The workshop will be conducted by staff members from NC-FHAAA who specialize in Medicare issues for the Manhattan based Area Agency on Aging. In addition to the presentation on Medicare by the FHAAA staff, there will be considerable time allotted for questions for any of the highly qualified personnel in attendance. The Flint Hills staff members involved in Medicare issues undergo intense training for that position as they strive to help Kansas Seniors arrive at Medicare decisions that are best for that individual. They work hard to help guide Kansas Seniors in their Medicare options, and are very thorough in presenting an appropriate explanation that is easily understood.
Participation is open to anyone in Mitchell County or any of the surrounding counties. For further information, please call the Beloit Senior Center at 785-738-5802, Jay Rowh, Mitchell County Silver Haired Legislator, at 785-738-2310 or 785-738-0241, or NC-FHAAA at 800-432-2703. You are all invited to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge of the federal Medicare program, and make it work for YOU.
