Summer Kids Cafe
This summer, children can enjoy free lunches through the Summer Kids Café program, a community funded nutrition program open to all kids aged 1-18 years. Starting Tuesday, May 31 and running through Thursday, August 18, kids can kick off each day with a fun activity beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Lutheran Church Park in Beloit, followed by a nutritious meal served from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Meals will not be served on May 30 or July 4.
This program is meeting a real need in our community. The Summer Kids Café program ensures all children can eat healthy food during the summer months when they can’t eat at school. Learning doesn’t end when school lets out; neither does the need for good nutrition. The Summer Kids Café provides good nutritious food, and serves up fun activities, that are “in” when school is “out.” On June 2, June 9 and August 11, Summer Kids Café is hosting a Bike Clinic from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. where volunteers fix kids’ bikes. The End of the Summer Picnic for all to enjoy will be August 12.
Filling out Participation Slips for your child(ren) is encouraged, but no child will be turned away due to not having this slip turned in. Participation Slips will be sent home through the schools or you can download the slip from the Summer Kids Café Facebook page. Please fill out and return the Participation Slip to Tami Roberts at Beloit Elementary School by May 2.
Last summer, Summer Kids Café served an average of 74 kids per day and more than 4,500 total meals. The program couldn’t have been made possible without the 32 sponsors and more than 350 volunteers that coordinated activities, and prepared and served meals. If you would like to financially support Summer Kids Café or volunteer your time this summer, please contact any of the SKC Board Members or call 785-534-7090. SKC Board Members include: Lyda Fincham, Chantz Martin, Amber Martin, Tami Roberts, Mary Jane Chapman, Mallory Wittstruck, Heidi Rexroat, Charle Green, Katie Cox, Donna Morrell, Marianne Sahlfeld, Vicki Jackson, Christi Fouts, Shelby Adams, Lindsay Burks and Britany Gilmore.
The meals, along with positive enrichment activities, help ensure kids return to school healthy and ready to learn.
Bring your children or tell a friend: To request a Participation Slip, contact Tami Roberts at 785-738-3581 (BES) or 785-738-3593 (BHS). If you have questions or concerns, contact Lyda Fincham at 785-534-7090 or check out our Facebook page at Beloit Summer Kids Café.
