OCCK is happy to be among the many organizations across the country to be celebrating direct support professional (DSP) week, which has been designated as September 13th through the 19th.

National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is celebrated annually across the country with special events and ceremonies earmarked to honor the tens of thousands of workers who enable people with intellectual, developmental and other significant disabilities and their families to live healthy community-oriented lives.

Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is sponsored by the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), and the National Association for Direct Support Professionals, (NADSP) whose mission it is to enhance the lives of all people with disabilities who rely on long-term supports and services by obtaining the resources to recruit, train and retain a highly qualified and sustainable workforce.

Direct support professionals assist millions of Americans with disabilities with living their lives to the fullest. They provide professional assistance with personal hygiene, medical needs, working and living in the community. Support to help develop and maintain relationships are also key functions.

OCCK has been providing services for people with disabilities for over 40 years. OCCK through strong partnerships with community services and resources help to ensure people with disabilities have the opportunity to be an integral part of the communities they choose to live in. Solomon Valley Village Joins Alzheimer’s Walk

Local Businesses fundraise for Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The following businesses are participating in the point-of-purchase “Promise Flower” fundraiser for the Solomon Valley Village Walk to End Alzheimer’s team that will be walking in Hays October 10th:

Catlin’s Friendly Apple Market
Gray Drug and Fountain
S & S Drug
Zachary Ace Hardware
Solomon Valley Home Center

Each business is offering an Alzheimer’s paper “Promise Flower” to their customers for a $2.00 donation. The customer may then have the opportunity to write their name on the paper flower, which represents their promise to honor, remember, care and fight for those facing Alzheimer’s disease. They may also choose to indicate the name of the person they are honoring. The flowers will then be displayed within the business. All funds raised provide essential care, support and vital research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death! For more information on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or how to donate go to or call Solomon Valley Village at 785-534-1892.
