School Mentorship

A group of Beloit citizens are helping the Beloit High School & St. John’s High School strengthen their mentorship program for next year. They are helping them come up with a list of employers who are willing to host a senior student in their field of interest for 47 to 94 minutes every school day for a half semester, full semester or a full year. Please note, this student is expected to gain real-world experience in their chosen field, not complete busy work. You will also need to fill out an evaluation sheet at the end of the student’s time with you and also call the school if the student doesn’t show up. If you are willing to teach a student about your career, please email Mandy Fincham, Community Development Specialist with North Central Regional Planning, mfincham@nckcn.com by Thursday, April 23 with the following information:

Company and Contact Name, Email and Phone
Position(s) student would mentor
Do you have a preference in having a student 47 or 94 minutes?
Do you have a preference in having a student a half semester, full semester or full school year?

This is not a guarantee you will have a student. But this gives students a list of willing employers to choose from to help them explore their interests and understand what it takes to work in that particular field. If a student is interested in your business, the school will contact you to set up an agreement. Our hope is to show Beloit & St. John’s students what is available in the area and make a connection with a local business, so when they graduate college, they will know the opportunities in the area and be more likely to come back to start their careers.

Memorial Day/Homecoming Weekend

Would you like to participate in the Homecoming Memorial Weekend parade? Contact the Chamber office for your pre registration form and one will be sent to you. The parade will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at 10am. Due to parking issues will be reversing the parade route this year. Lineup will begin at 9am at the corner South & Mill and the staging area will be at the Down Under parking lot. The Parade will proceed north on Mill Street and disband at Mill & 4th.

After the parade there will be a picnic in the park at Chautauqua Park served by area organizations and a classic car show. Take your car through the parade and then come to the park to enter your car. There will be three awards given at the car show, Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice and People’s Choice. If you would like to be a food vendor or enter a car into the show, contact the Chamber office for more information.

We are in need of organizations/volunteers to help with the parade and car show in the park. If you would like to volunteer, call the Chamber at 738-2717 or email beloitchamber@nckcn.com.
