4th Annual Wakonda Indian Festival

Come join us in celebrating the 4th Annual Wakonda Indian Festival, Saturday, July 19th and Sunday July 20th. Hours are 10am-5pm both days. Located at Glen Elder, Kansas State Park/Waconda Lake, Osage Area, off Highway 24, follow the signs. Entrance across from Lakeside Convenience. Suggested donation of $3.00 a person 12 & under free.

Offering Native American Dance, Hoop Dance, Drumming/Singing, Artwork, Indian Tacos, Fry Bread, Drinks, Educational Interaction with the crowd & Storytelling inside a teepee! Tents and tables provided for shade and relaxation. Bring your own lawn chair if you wish and enjoy the day! Raffles throughout both days!

St. John’s Harvest Festival

St. John’s Catholic Church is celebrating their 73rd Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, July 26, 2014, on the school grounds, located in the 700 block of East Court Street in Beloit.

Activities will begin following the 5:00 P.M. Mass.

Available activities throughout the evening include the following:

• Burgers & Brats, with baked beans & potato salad • Children’s rides
• Games for all ages • Homemade ice cream, pies and cakes • Homemade goodies
• Funnel cakes • Garden Produce • Bingo until midnight
• Drawings for Grand Prizes at 10:30 p.m.

NCK Tech Students Compete at Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference

NCK Tech (North Central Kansas Technical College) is pleased to announce two students were awarded National Championship medals during the 50th Annual Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held on June 23-27, 2014 in Kansas City, MO. Curtis Anderson, Burr Oak, a 2014 graduate of the NCK Tech Beloit campus welding program, achieved first place in the Welding competition and Cris Hayes, Clay Center, a 2014 graduate of the Information Technology program, placed first in the Computer Maintenance competition. The NCK Tech Welding Fabrication Team earned a Silver Medal in the Welding Fabrication team competition.

Nine students from NCK Tech attended conference, which provided an opportunity for career and technical education students to showcase their skills and connect with business and industry leaders and employers. The conference attracted approximately 15,000 students, teachers, educational leaders, labor union and industry representatives from across the nation. More than 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students – all state contest winners – competed in 99 different trade, technical and leadership fields. In the competition, students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. Contests are run with the help of industry, trade associations, and labor organizations, and test competencies are set by industry.

NCK Tech Faculty Honored at Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference

The Skills USA competitions are focused on student talents and achievements, but the organization also recognizes the significant contributions of career technical education faculty. This year, during the 50th Annual Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held on June 23-27, 2014 in Kansas City, MO, 46 technical programs in Kansas earned a section membership award for supporting the goals and purposes of Career Technical Education through SkillsUSA. Eight faculty members from NCK Tech earned 100% section awards, indicating they had enrolled 15 or more student members of their programs in SkillsUSA. The instructors and programs are as follows:
